Trying to figure out what to make? Or maybe just some inspiration before going to the grocery store? This Recipes section chronicles everything that I make on a daily basis. The good, the not-quite-so-good, and the sheer and utter failures! I’m joking, of course. There are very few catastrophic failures that cannot be remedied with the right skill, coaching, and presence of good family, friends, pets, and compost bins! But, nevertheless. Cooking is about perseverance and having fun with it.

I’m constantly in search of a new and interesting recipes to make. Even a brief perusal of this Recipes section will give anyone an idea of how much I cook. After a 10, 11 hour shift at work cooking for other people all day? The first thing that I want to do when I get home, my feet aching on concrete floors and my entire body smelling of other people’s food and my own blood, sweat, and tears? Is not to put my feet up and relax! But to crank up the music in my kitchen, pour myself a glass of sauvignon blanc, and start slow cooking a curry! Or make macaroni and cheese from scratch. Or melting cheese all over every single leftover that I have in my fridge in a big plate of nachos.

It’s really why I started this blog. I wanted some way to chronicle my culinary endeavors and preserve them for future reference. After all, if I don’t write down what I did, why I did it, and take pictures for posterity’s sake? I will absolutely never be able to recreate it again. And, if I’m going to go to that much effort just to be able to recreate something that I made in the middle of the night after cracking into a bottle of wine? Maybe you can find some inspiration in it, too.

Part of the point of cooking is to have a community. And my motto is always, if you have to eat? You might as well eat well! So, I hope that this Recipes section can provide some of that community. And inspiration to cook to anyone beyond myself. My eternal desire is not to fall into complacency or boredom. So, if in any way my eternally expanding Recipes section is of any value to anyone beyond myself? I wish you all of the best luck!

Spring Rolls w/ Tofu, Carrots, & Avocados

November 14, 2021

I have been exploring my local grocery store and looking for something fun and interesting to make this weekend. Every now and then I just get into a culinary rut. When, what I usually make, just seems repetitive and boring. What I cook tends to […]

Spring Rolls w/ Shrimp, Carrots, & Avocados

November 11, 2021

I am always looking at those beautiful spring rolls with the bright pink shrimp glistening through the rice paper. They always look so elegant, reposed, and so above and beyond what I’m capable of making! After all, I do like a good plating and have […]

Peanut Sauce w/ Tamari & Thai Chili

November 11, 2021

In the very last throes of summer produce, I have a couple of Thai chilis. So, what better way to use them than for spring rolls with a spicy peanut sauce? Now, Thai chilis might not be in the more classic of peanut sauces. But […]

Nachos w/ Banana Truffle Quiche

November 7, 2021

I have been craving peanut butter lately. I can’t exactly explain it. Maybe it’s the crummy weather and needing a comfort food. Maybe it’s the rapid 30 degree shifts in temperature overnight. Or maybe it’s just stress eating! Because life also happens. But all that […]

Burrito w/ Banana & Black Truffle Quiche

November 7, 2021

I adore making crustless quiche. Especially in the fall and winter when the last of the fresh produce is in season, the rain is beginning to set in, and you just need something warm and cosy to bite into! But, as much as I like […]

Quiche w/ Apples, Bananas, & Truffle Gruyère

November 7, 2021

There’s something about fall that makes me crave fruit. When the rest of the world wants pumpkin spice lattes? I’m dreaming of roasted bananas and apples, with maybe just a hint of nutmeg. Perhaps because it’s the tail end of fresh produce season. After toiling […]

Burrito w/ Black Beans, Brown Rice, & Fried Tofu

November 4, 2021

This is a very quintessential burrito. With black beans and brown rice? There is nothing more classic in burrito form. The Slow Cooker Black Beans are flavored with calabaza squash and homegrown habaneros. And the Brown Rice is packed with calabaza squash and homegrown Anaheim […]

Burrito w/ Calabaza Beans, Rice, & Runny Egg

November 4, 2021

This burrito is full of calabaza squash. I’m incredibly fond of calabaza. It’s a very large squash that’s a bright orange hue with a sweeter and heartier flavor than your more typical butternut or pumpkin. Although both can easily be substituted in these recipes. I […]

Nachos w/ Calabaza Black Beans & Brown Rice

October 31, 2021

Halloween is looming in the air. The weather is starting to take a turn. A chill is setting in the air. Leaves are beginning to fall. And I’m in full on gourd mode. I didn’t go into this meal intending it to be festive themed. […]

Slow Cooker Black Beans w/ Calabaza & Habaneros

October 31, 2021

Slow cooker black beans are incredibly simple to make. We sometimes like to think that beans just come out of cans. But they’re far easier to make at home than most people realize! You really just throw a bunch of produce and beans into a […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
