Trying to figure out what to make? Or maybe just some inspiration before going to the grocery store? This Recipes section chronicles everything that I make on a daily basis. The good, the not-quite-so-good, and the sheer and utter failures! I’m joking, of course. There are very few catastrophic failures that cannot be remedied with the right skill, coaching, and presence of good family, friends, pets, and compost bins! But, nevertheless. Cooking is about perseverance and having fun with it.

I’m constantly in search of a new and interesting recipes to make. Even a brief perusal of this Recipes section will give anyone an idea of how much I cook. After a 10, 11 hour shift at work cooking for other people all day? The first thing that I want to do when I get home, my feet aching on concrete floors and my entire body smelling of other people’s food and my own blood, sweat, and tears? Is not to put my feet up and relax! But to crank up the music in my kitchen, pour myself a glass of sauvignon blanc, and start slow cooking a curry! Or make macaroni and cheese from scratch. Or melting cheese all over every single leftover that I have in my fridge in a big plate of nachos.

It’s really why I started this blog. I wanted some way to chronicle my culinary endeavors and preserve them for future reference. After all, if I don’t write down what I did, why I did it, and take pictures for posterity’s sake? I will absolutely never be able to recreate it again. And, if I’m going to go to that much effort just to be able to recreate something that I made in the middle of the night after cracking into a bottle of wine? Maybe you can find some inspiration in it, too.

Part of the point of cooking is to have a community. And my motto is always, if you have to eat? You might as well eat well! So, I hope that this Recipes section can provide some of that community. And inspiration to cook to anyone beyond myself. My eternal desire is not to fall into complacency or boredom. So, if in any way my eternally expanding Recipes section is of any value to anyone beyond myself? I wish you all of the best luck!

Mexican Rice w/ Cayenne Peppers & Bay Leaves

January 7, 2024

The other day I made Mexican Rice for Enchiladas and have been hooked. I don’t often make actual rice in my rice cooker. As much as I like rice, it’s kind of boring. It’s easy to overcook or undercook or have burn to the bottom […]

I can’t remember what exactly I was thinking I was going to do with a couple pounds of spinach, but that happens sometimes when you shop at Costco. So, here we are staring at my refrigerator for the last several days going, “Well, I have […]

No-knead Dutch Oven Bread w/ Cocoa Powder & Chocolate Chips

December 31, 2023

The other day I made Chocolate Bread for a little Halloweeny ladies brunch. I found an article on substituting 10% flour for cocoa powder in bread recipes (King Arthur Baking Company’s How to Give Any Bread a Chocolate Makeover). Which worked out really well! So, […]

I have a tendency to make something at the beginning of the week and then repurpose the leftovers in different dishes throughout the rest of the week. This works incredibly well with something like lentils or quinoa that go with a wide variety of flavor […]

Burrito w/ Sweet Potato, Spinach, Quinoa, & Avocado Dip

December 28, 2023

I turn absolutely anything and everything into burritos. It’s my go-to method for utilizing whatever desperate ingredients that I have on hand at the time. It’s a quick and easy dish that’s incredibly easy to toss together. It only takes about fifteen minutes to toast […]

Pasta w/ Sweet Potato, Spinach, Quinoa, & Fresh Mozzarella

December 24, 2023

I almost always have quinoa or lentils on hand. Quinoa in the summer because it pairs well with bright, refreshing ingredients and lentils in the winter because it has a more robust, hearty flavor profile. Think citrus and vinegar versus cinnamon and ginger. Although, you […]

Quinoa w/ Sweet Potatoes, Spinach, & Garlic

December 24, 2023

I’ve been making a lot of really big meals lately. I’ve been in kind of a cooking rut this summer. Although that does tend to happen when things get busy and I don’t have the time and/or the energy to come home from a long […]

No-knead Dutch Oven Chocolate Bread w/ Cocoa Powder

Halloween is coming up and I’ve been trying to come up with something vaguely Halloween themed for ladies brunch. This might be an excuse to make a giant cheese board and day drink, but we do also craft some of the time! I also usually […]

Pizza w/ Avocado, Spinach, Roasted Potatoes, & Fresh Mozzarella

December 17, 2023

Scrambled Eggs w/ Potatoes & Garden Peppers

December 17, 2023

I am at the point where I need to pick some peppers. Some are overripening, some are falling off, and some are getting eaten by the critters. The bunnies and squirrels tend to knock peppers off of the plant and maybe bury them more than […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
