Trying to figure out what to make? Or maybe just some inspiration before going to the grocery store? This Recipes section chronicles everything that I make on a daily basis. The good, the not-quite-so-good, and the sheer and utter failures! I’m joking, of course. There are very few catastrophic failures that cannot be remedied with the right skill, coaching, and presence of good family, friends, pets, and compost bins! But, nevertheless. Cooking is about perseverance and having fun with it.

I’m constantly in search of a new and interesting recipes to make. Even a brief perusal of this Recipes section will give anyone an idea of how much I cook. After a 10, 11 hour shift at work cooking for other people all day? The first thing that I want to do when I get home, my feet aching on concrete floors and my entire body smelling of other people’s food and my own blood, sweat, and tears? Is not to put my feet up and relax! But to crank up the music in my kitchen, pour myself a glass of sauvignon blanc, and start slow cooking a curry! Or make macaroni and cheese from scratch. Or melting cheese all over every single leftover that I have in my fridge in a big plate of nachos.

It’s really why I started this blog. I wanted some way to chronicle my culinary endeavors and preserve them for future reference. After all, if I don’t write down what I did, why I did it, and take pictures for posterity’s sake? I will absolutely never be able to recreate it again. And, if I’m going to go to that much effort just to be able to recreate something that I made in the middle of the night after cracking into a bottle of wine? Maybe you can find some inspiration in it, too.

Part of the point of cooking is to have a community. And my motto is always, if you have to eat? You might as well eat well! So, I hope that this Recipes section can provide some of that community. And inspiration to cook to anyone beyond myself. My eternal desire is not to fall into complacency or boredom. So, if in any way my eternally expanding Recipes section is of any value to anyone beyond myself? I wish you all of the best luck!

Nachos w/ Spinach & Gouda Quiche

September 7, 2023

I’ve been playing around with a miniature cheesecake pan. I ended up with Miniature Quiche w/ Spinach & Gouda, which ended up being a cross between a miniature cheesecake and a quiche. It was a little sweet for my liking and I’d recommend maybe not […]

Miniature Quiche w/ Spinach & Gouda

September 3, 2023

I’ve been in a miniature foods mood. Do you ever want to feel like one of those British ladies in hats who eats nothing but conveniently bite-sized foods? In the culinary world, this is ordinarily called a huge pain in the you-know-what. Nevertheless, I decided […]

Oaxaca Cheese-stuffed Cubanelle Peppers

August 31, 2023

My local grocery store has started carrying Cubanelle peppers. They call them “Cubanelles,” so I’m going to follow suit. Although you’ll also see them listed as Cuban or Cubana peppers. They look like a cross between banana peppers and Anaheim peppers with a similarly mild […]

Nachos w/ Venison Shepherd’s Pie

August 27, 2023

The other day I made Shepherd’s Pie w/ Venison & Gruyère Aligot. One of my favorite ways to utilize leftovers is to make nachos or burritos. This week I did both with Venison Shepherd’s Pie Nachos and Venison Shepherd’s Pie Burritos. Both of these are a great way […]

Burrito w/ Venison Shepherd’s Pie

August 24, 2023

The other day I made Shepherd’s Pie w/ Venison & Gruyère Aligot. Not one to waste an opportunity to turn absolutely anything and everything into leftovers? I’m of course going to make Venison Shepherd’s Pie Burrito. Burritos are one of my favorite ways to utilize leftovers. […]

Potluck Avocado Dip w/ Pecans & Jalapeños

August 20, 2023

Avocado dip is one of my favorite things to make. This might age me… But, if I could only have one food on a desert island? It would probably be avocados. Or maybe potatoes. When am I ever only going to be able to eat […]

Shepherd’s Pie w/ Venison & Gruyère Aligot

August 17, 2023

I am a “more is more” kind of person when it comes to making potatoes. I’ve also been traveling. I’m calling it “freelance traveling chef” work on my resume. Although it’s really just a fancy way of saying “unemployed chef who’s burned out on the […]

The Fundamentals of Aligot

August 15, 2023

Aligot (pronounced, a-li-ɡo, like alligator, without the at- and -r) is a French dip made with mashed potatoes and cheese. “Mashed potatoes” is really kind of a misnomer, though. It’s really more like a fondue with a hint of potatoes. The more typical French recipe […]

Fried Egg w/ Zucchini, Onion, & Avocado

August 13, 2023

I keep almost making stir fry. There’s something about getting out a big pan that makes me feel like I’m making a big meal. And, while a wok is indeed a big pan (or, at least pan-adjacent, if you want to get semantic about it), […]

Salad w/ Salmon, Couscous, & Cauliflower

August 6, 2023

I’m a big fan of salmon. I grew up on the West coast, so it’s ingrained in my culinary formative years. I don’t tend to eat much meat these days. Especially seafood that’s not great in this regional area. But it’s my go-to when I […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
