Trying to figure out what to make? Or maybe just some inspiration before going to the grocery store? This Recipes section chronicles everything that I make on a daily basis. The good, the not-quite-so-good, and the sheer and utter failures! I’m joking, of course. There are very few catastrophic failures that cannot be remedied with the right skill, coaching, and presence of good family, friends, pets, and compost bins! But, nevertheless. Cooking is about perseverance and having fun with it.

I’m constantly in search of a new and interesting recipes to make. Even a brief perusal of this Recipes section will give anyone an idea of how much I cook. After a 10, 11 hour shift at work cooking for other people all day? The first thing that I want to do when I get home, my feet aching on concrete floors and my entire body smelling of other people’s food and my own blood, sweat, and tears? Is not to put my feet up and relax! But to crank up the music in my kitchen, pour myself a glass of sauvignon blanc, and start slow cooking a curry! Or make macaroni and cheese from scratch. Or melting cheese all over every single leftover that I have in my fridge in a big plate of nachos.

It’s really why I started this blog. I wanted some way to chronicle my culinary endeavors and preserve them for future reference. After all, if I don’t write down what I did, why I did it, and take pictures for posterity’s sake? I will absolutely never be able to recreate it again. And, if I’m going to go to that much effort just to be able to recreate something that I made in the middle of the night after cracking into a bottle of wine? Maybe you can find some inspiration in it, too.

Part of the point of cooking is to have a community. And my motto is always, if you have to eat? You might as well eat well! So, I hope that this Recipes section can provide some of that community. And inspiration to cook to anyone beyond myself. My eternal desire is not to fall into complacency or boredom. So, if in any way my eternally expanding Recipes section is of any value to anyone beyond myself? I wish you all of the best luck!

Enchiladas w/ Pinto Beans, Mexican Rice, & Roasted Potatoes

November 5, 2023

I’ve been in kind of a culinary rut lately. That happens. The desire to cook comes and goes depending on how hectic the rest of my life is and how much homemade enchiladas would be the problem or resolve the problem. It might be because […]

Salsa w/ Tomatoes, Red Onion, & Garlic

I know that I’m going to make Enchiladas w/ Pinto Beans, Mexican Rice, & Roasted Potatoes. Ordinarily, I would make enchilada sauce. However, I’m feeling a bit lazy at the moment. After all, I did just make Slow Cooker Pinto Beans w/ Habaneros & Garlic, […]

Crema w/ Sour Cream, Heavy Whipping Cream, & Lime

November 2, 2023

I can’t say that I have any experience with “authentic” crema. It’s one of those things where there doesn’t seem to be a lot of consistency across recipes. Although I’m always trying to recreate the flavor of it baked on top of the world’s most […]

The Fundamentals of Sautéed Potatoes

November 1, 2023

Quite frankly, I don’t want to explain how to cook potatoes every time that I use them in a recipe. Potatoes are kind of like scrambled eggs where, once you know how to do it, you don’t really need an explanation every time. “Sauté potatoes” […]

Fall is in the air and you know what that means: it’s bean season. Not really, bean harvesting season is in midsummer to early autumn. And, while there are plenty of people who grow or may otherwise have access to fresh beans? Most of us […]

Slow Cooker Pinto Beans w/ Habaneros & Garlic

October 29, 2023

It’s officially fall and you know what that means: It’s pepper season. Peppers are a fall harvest crop and one of my favorite things to grow. It might take all summer for them to ripen in my climate, but it’s well worth the effort when […]

Lasagna w/ Manchego Cheese & Cayenne Pepper

October 26, 2023

I am taking a temporary retrieve from my black bean craze. In the fall, when the hot peppers are ripening, I tend to make a lot of beans. They’re a great recipe to make on the go. It only takes about 15 minutes to toss […]

Salad w/ Blackened Cod, Black Beans, & Potatoes

October 22, 2023

I’ve been making black beans lately. It’s one of the things that I like to do in the fall when peppers in my garden are ripening. Although you can absolutely make them any time of the year with dried beans and any peppers of choice […]

Sautéed Yukon Gold Potatoes w/ Red Ember Peppers

October 19, 2023

I don’t always make sautéed potatoes their own recipe page. I tend to break up recipe into multiple pages when things are a little bit more complicated, when it would help to have a little bit more clarification, and/or when the recipe would just be […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
