Trying to figure out what to make? Or maybe just some inspiration before going to the grocery store? This Recipes section chronicles everything that I make on a daily basis. The good, the not-quite-so-good, and the sheer and utter failures! I’m joking, of course. There are very few catastrophic failures that cannot be remedied with the right skill, coaching, and presence of good family, friends, pets, and compost bins! But, nevertheless. Cooking is about perseverance and having fun with it.

I’m constantly in search of a new and interesting recipes to make. Even a brief perusal of this Recipes section will give anyone an idea of how much I cook. After a 10, 11 hour shift at work cooking for other people all day? The first thing that I want to do when I get home, my feet aching on concrete floors and my entire body smelling of other people’s food and my own blood, sweat, and tears? Is not to put my feet up and relax! But to crank up the music in my kitchen, pour myself a glass of sauvignon blanc, and start slow cooking a curry! Or make macaroni and cheese from scratch. Or melting cheese all over every single leftover that I have in my fridge in a big plate of nachos.

It’s really why I started this blog. I wanted some way to chronicle my culinary endeavors and preserve them for future reference. After all, if I don’t write down what I did, why I did it, and take pictures for posterity’s sake? I will absolutely never be able to recreate it again. And, if I’m going to go to that much effort just to be able to recreate something that I made in the middle of the night after cracking into a bottle of wine? Maybe you can find some inspiration in it, too.

Part of the point of cooking is to have a community. And my motto is always, if you have to eat? You might as well eat well! So, I hope that this Recipes section can provide some of that community. And inspiration to cook to anyone beyond myself. My eternal desire is not to fall into complacency or boredom. So, if in any way my eternally expanding Recipes section is of any value to anyone beyond myself? I wish you all of the best luck!

Avocado Dip w/ White Beans & Walnuts

April 28, 2022

I don’t always make white beans avocado dip. Although I very frequently make Avocado & Greek Yogurt Dip! It’s roughly a cross between hummus and guacamole, but works with a wider variety of dishes and lasts infinitely longer in the refrigerator than anything with avocados […]

Quick Soak Lima Beans

April 28, 2022

Lima beans are a great option for quick soaking beans. They’re a large and relatively soft bean that retains moisture fairly quickly. I actually overcooked these slightly because they took so much less time than I anticipated! I used this batch for Avocado Dip w/ […]

Burrito w/ Wild Rice & Sweet Potatoes

April 24, 2022

The other day I made Wild Rice w/ Sweet Potatoes, Yellow Onions & Lime. I don’t ordinarily cook with wild rice that much. It’s absolutely one of my favorites, though! It’s an incredibly flavorful rice with a fun pop of color. Not that many foods […]

Omelette w/ Pear, Spinach & Chèvre

April 24, 2022

I have come home with an enormous amount of pears. As much as I like to eat them just for a snack? I also like to see where I can cook with them. Especially because fruit so easily gets lumped into the sweet category. As […]

Nachos w/ Pinto Beans, Wild Rice, & Chèvre

April 21, 2022

In my never-ending quest to turn absolutely everything into nachos, today I have wild rice nachos. Nachos are a great way to utilize leftovers. For whatever reason, people in Wisconsin aren’t fans of leftovers. It baffles me to no end because reheating things is so […]

Burrito w/ Beans, Wild Rice, & Runny Egg

April 21, 2022

The other day I made Stovetop Pinto Beans w/ Yellow Onion & Garlic and Rice w/ Sweet Potatoes, Yellow Onions, & Limes. I turn absolutely anything and everything into a burrito. So, I made Burrito w/ Pinto Beans & Rice pretty much immediately. This morning I decided to […]

Burrito w/ Pinto Beans & Wild Rice

April 21, 2022

This week I made Stovetop Pinto Beans w/ Yellow Onion & Garlic and Wild Rice w/ Sweet Potatoes, Yellow Onions, & Limes. They’re both fun and simple recipes to throw together in a pinch. And that means that I’m absolutely going to make a burrito! […]

Stovetop Pinto Beans w/ Yellow Onion & Garlic

April 21, 2022

I made Stovetop Black Beans w/ Shallots & Garlic the other day. I tend to think of summer as being beans and rice season. We’re not quite there yet because the fresh produce that I ordinarily grow during the summer is still knee high to […]

Lasagna w/ Spinach & Smoked Mozzarella

April 17, 2022

When thinking about Easter, lasagna isn’t something that immediately comes to mind! After all, I’m thinking spring. Eggs. Maybe salmon. Some bright and floral cheese. Perhaps chèvre? I did even buy chèvre and then not use it. Mostly because, as much as I associate these […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
