Category: Casseroles

When I think of casseroles, I oftentimes think of big holiday dishes, like sweet potato or green been casseroles. However, the casserole category is much larger than this!

A casserole is really anything slowly cooked in a casserole dish. A casserole dish is a type of large baking dish that has deep sides and is ordinarily rectangular or oval in shape.

This means that almost anything can be turned into casserole. It encompasses everything from mac ‘n’ cheese and lasagna to chicken and broccoli and hamburger helper. Many of these are largely dairy and cheese or meat-based, but you can easily make vegetarian and vegan casseroles.

They’re great to make for specific dishes or to toss leftovers into a coherent meal. A good way to mix up holiday leftovers is to turn them into a casserole. If you end up with too much turkey after Thanksgiving and are tired of sandwiches, try a turkey and noodle or wild rice casserole.

I have been craving quiche for a little while. After Easter, I am still in the mood for eggs! And I’ve been buying waaaay too much bulk spinach. Which is not necessarily a negative, but it does mean that using spinach is not optional! It […]

It’s Saint Patrick’s Day. And, while I’m Scottish and Welsh, not Irish, and don’t have any allegiance to the Patron Saint of Ireland who’s credited with spreading Catholicism to Ireland or theoretically banishing snakes from the island that absolutely already didn’t have snakes. Not to […]

I absolutely adore macaroni and cheese! People tend to think of it as a kid’s food and something that comes out of a box and is covered in some powdered excuse for a dairy product. But macaroni and cheese is one of my all time […]

I didn’t originally set out trying to make red, white, and green lasagna… I really just crave lasagna fairly regularly! When you’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off and don’t stop moving enough to actually eat, there is nothing better […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
