Category: Casseroles

When I think of casseroles, I oftentimes think of big holiday dishes, like sweet potato or green been casseroles. However, the casserole category is much larger than this!

A casserole is really anything slowly cooked in a casserole dish. A casserole dish is a type of large baking dish that has deep sides and is ordinarily rectangular or oval in shape.

This means that almost anything can be turned into casserole. It encompasses everything from mac ‘n’ cheese and lasagna to chicken and broccoli and hamburger helper. Many of these are largely dairy and cheese or meat-based, but you can easily make vegetarian and vegan casseroles.

They’re great to make for specific dishes or to toss leftovers into a coherent meal. A good way to mix up holiday leftovers is to turn them into a casserole. If you end up with too much turkey after Thanksgiving and are tired of sandwiches, try a turkey and noodle or wild rice casserole.

I am a “more is more” kind of person when it comes to making potatoes. I’ve also been traveling. I’m calling it “freelance traveling chef” work on my resume. Although it’s really just a fancy way of saying “unemployed chef who’s burned out on the […]

I adore macaroni and cheese. It’s one of my favorite things to make and is surprisingly simple to toss together from scratch. I’ll turn just about any and every cheese that I have lying around into macaroni and cheese. I have a local cheese shop […]

Miniature Quiche w/ Cheddar & Broccoli

May 21, 2023

It’s officially spring. The price of eggs has skyrocketed lately, but I cannot fathom a world without eggs. I’ve had chickens a couple of times and have gone whole swaths of my life where I pretty much lived on eggs. They’re a hearty food that’s […]

Quiche w/ Spinach & Cherry Tomatoes

April 30, 2023

Quiche is a great thing to bring to holidays and potlucks. It’s good hot right out of the oven. But it’s also good chilled or at room temperature. So, if you’re tight on oven space or want to make something ahead of time, quiche works […]

Macaroni and cheese is one of my favorite things to make. If I’m ever having a lackadaisical day, macaroni is my go-to. It’s relatively simple to make and quick/easy once you get the hang of it. It’s also just a nostalgic childhood foods that warms […]

Macaroni & Cheese w/ Spicy Irishman Whiskey Cheddar

February 19, 2023

A little while ago I came across Spicy Irishman Whiskey Cheddar. Exactly how long ago is not important because cheese that is vacuum sealed like this lasts quite a while in the refrigerator! I was honestly a little bit worried that I had waited entirely […]

Fall is in the air. Freshly cut grass. Drops of dew. And falling leaves are all around. As is the scent of freshly roasting pie pumpkin in my oven! There is only one time a year when you can get pie pumpkins. It’s one of […]

Potato Bake w/ Tomatoes, Zucchini, & Fresh Mozzarella

July 24, 2022

I have miniature multicolored potatoes, zucchini, and tomatoes on hand. Which sounds like a pasta salad. Although, as much as I enjoy a good pasta salad? I don’t particularly like the taste of cold noodles days later when I inevitably haven’t eaten all of it. […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
