I tend to think of salads as being boring. After all, aren’t they what you eat before a meal to feel better about the decadent meal that you’re about to have?

They’re typically a starter or side course when eating out that’s drenched in bulk ranch dressing. Or the thing that you eat to make you feel better about eating an enormous amount of gravy for Thanksgiving. Maybe one of those sides drenched in mayonnaise during a summer barbecue? That ones that are really just mayonnaise disguised as something edible!?

While ranch drenched calorie drain and I don’t even know if we can legitimately call ambrosia or potato salad an actual salad, I do in fact eat a lot of salads! I just don’t make what you would typically consider a side or appetizer dish.

Generally speaking, a salad is any cold dish that’s served with a dressing or dip.

Knowing me, this oftentimes means making something that’s large enough to be a meal in and of itself. It’s packed with enough protein to be filling and flavorful enough to be worth it.

Vermicelli Salad w/ Summer Squash, Avocado, & Sprouts

July 31, 2022

I don’t want to cook today. We all have those days where you have absolutely nothing to eat and have to do something, but just do not have the energy to make curry over the next four to eight hours. Which is entirely reasonable. I […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Tofu, Zucchini, Peppers, & Sprouts

July 28, 2022

I’m sure that someone else has made a Vermicelli Salad before. Having a new idea in food is kind of a rarity. Everything that we make has culinary influence, even if it’s subconscious. I’m incredibly fond of these vermicelli salads. I don’t quite remember what […]

Quinoa w/ Tomatoes, Jalapeños, & Fennel

June 30, 2022

Every now and then I pick up something fun from the grocery store with absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with it. Today, that item is fennel. Well, it’s actually a plethora of things that I picked up from the not one, not […]

Over the last couple of days I’ve been making Ahi Tuna Steak Salad and Salmon Salad w/ Quinoa & Pears. I still have a bit of the quinoa and avocado medley in the refrigerator. Currently I reside in the middle of the country where, for […]

Salad w/ Tamari Quinoa, Pears, & Salmon

June 23, 2022

Seafood was on sale yesterday. I started out making an Ahi Tuna Steak Salad. Although I only had so much tuna! So, today I decided to recreate the same kind of salad dish with salmon. Salmon is ordinarily my go-to. I’m from the West coast […]

Salad w/ Tamari Quinoa, Pears, & Ahi Tuna Steaks

June 23, 2022

Ahi tuna steaks were on sale at my local grocery store. They’re not necessarily my go-to seafood. Although I’m not exactly great at turning down a good deal! The seafood section is in the back of the grocery store, which meant that I then had […]

Quinoa w/ Jalapeños, Shallots, & Ginger

June 23, 2022

Quinoa is one of my go-tos. It’s hands down one of my favorite things to make. In the winter, I eat a lot of lentils and sweet potatoes. In the warmer months, though? I crave something a little bit brighter and oftentimes opt for quinoa. […]

Quinoa w/ Sweet Potatoes, Peanut Butter, & Tamari

June 5, 2022

I didn’t necessarily go into this expecting that I would make Peanut Butter Quinoa. I’ve been having quite the experimental assortment of food lately, though. I’ve made Curry w/ Multicolored Potatoes, Peanuts, & Sprouts, Cheesecake w/ Peanut Butter & Chocolate Ganache, and Curry w/ Bananas, […]

Salad w/ Blackened Tilapia, Avocado, & Vermicelli

May 29, 2022

I’m a big fan of vermicelli salads. I make them all of the time as a way to toss all of the produce that I have on hand into a single thing all at once. Curry is another non-boring option for this. Especially since I […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Carrots & Bell Peppers

May 26, 2022

I’ve been making a lot of curries lately. The weather is turning to summer and I suppose that I wanted to get in all of my hot food fixes all at once! Although it’s finally pretty warm. Wisconsin routinely hovers around the 80s and 90s […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
