I tend to think of salads as being boring. After all, aren’t they what you eat before a meal to feel better about the decadent meal that you’re about to have?

They’re typically a starter or side course when eating out that’s drenched in bulk ranch dressing. Or the thing that you eat to make you feel better about eating an enormous amount of gravy for Thanksgiving. Maybe one of those sides drenched in mayonnaise during a summer barbecue? That ones that are really just mayonnaise disguised as something edible!?

While ranch drenched calorie drain and I don’t even know if we can legitimately call ambrosia or potato salad an actual salad, I do in fact eat a lot of salads! I just don’t make what you would typically consider a side or appetizer dish.

Generally speaking, a salad is any cold dish that’s served with a dressing or dip.

Knowing me, this oftentimes means making something that’s large enough to be a meal in and of itself. It’s packed with enough protein to be filling and flavorful enough to be worth it.

Tagine w/ Tomatoes, Chickpeas, & Sweet Potatoes

January 1, 2023

All of the Moroccan-inspired Christmas dishes this year revolve around this Chickpeas Tagine. I’ve been eyeing a tagine for a while, now. It’s one of the few culinary pots that I don’t already own. So, I’m absolutely on board with picking one up for this […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Daikon, Tofu, & Avocado

December 22, 2022

The other day I made Vermicelli Salad w/ Daikon & Yellow Squash. I ordinarily like to add in avocado with this for a little bit of indulgence. Although I’ve used all of my avocados on Avocado Dip w/ Greek Yogurt & Walnuts. So, I decided […]

Instant Pot Dutch Oven Lentils w/ Cauliflower & Tahini

December 15, 2022

I like to test out new products. I’m in the restaurant industry. There’s very little difference between high-end consumer and low-end professional culinary products. And, quite frankly, you don’t have to ask me twice if I want a fancy schmancy new red Dutch oven (this […]

Lentils w/ Sweet Potato, Spinach, Ginger, & Garlic

November 24, 2022

It’s the holiday season. And, more than anything in the blustery weather, I make lentils. I know that this might mot be the most common of things! But I associate quinoa with bright, citrus, summery days. And I associate lentils with warm, rich, winter. This […]

Pasta Salad w/ Salmon, Squash, Dijon, & Dill

November 13, 2022

I made Cashew Dip w/ Lemon & Dill the other day along with a Grilled Salmon and Roasted Kabocha Squash Purée. It’s probably inevitable that absolutely everything there was going to get combined into one dish. I’ve been toying with the idea of pasta salad […]

Pasta w/ Salmon & Kabocha Squash

November 10, 2022

I made an entire box of rigatoni. Don’t ask me why. I usually only make half a box at a time. But, for whatever reason, I just said let’s go for it! Maybe because I’ve been secretly craving pasta salad and I wanted extra for […]

Lentils w/ Kabocha Squash, Potatoes, & Ginger, & Tamari

October 27, 2022

I’m in the process of making Roasted Kabocha Squash and have to also make something to actually eat today. As the weather starts to get chilly, I tend to switch from quinoa in the summer to lentils in the winter. There’s nothing seasonal about the […]

Salad w/ Salmon, Roasted Hubbard Squash, & Quinoa

October 2, 2022

I can’t quite remember what I originally went to the grocery store. Half of the time I don’t really know what I want to make. I just know that I’m going to cook today and go in with some vague idea about buying produce. Inspiration […]

Quinoa w/ Red Hubbard Squash, Ginger, & Turmeric

September 29, 2022

Fall is in full swing and I am absolutely in squash mode. There are several squash varieties that are available all year round. The staples, like acorn, butternut, and delicata squash, are almost always in every grocery store. Although once a year, for a few […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Cucumber, Zucchini, & Garden Peppers

August 25, 2022

One of my friends gifted me a bunch of produce from their garden. I have produce of my own very slowly ripening on my porch and part of the alleyway that I have absconded with in between my building in the city. Which should highlight […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
