I tend to think of salads as being boring. After all, aren’t they what you eat before a meal to feel better about the decadent meal that you’re about to have?

They’re typically a starter or side course when eating out that’s drenched in bulk ranch dressing. Or the thing that you eat to make you feel better about eating an enormous amount of gravy for Thanksgiving. Maybe one of those sides drenched in mayonnaise during a summer barbecue? That ones that are really just mayonnaise disguised as something edible!?

While ranch drenched calorie drain and I don’t even know if we can legitimately call ambrosia or potato salad an actual salad, I do in fact eat a lot of salads! I just don’t make what you would typically consider a side or appetizer dish.

Generally speaking, a salad is any cold dish that’s served with a dressing or dip.

Knowing me, this oftentimes means making something that’s large enough to be a meal in and of itself. It’s packed with enough protein to be filling and flavorful enough to be worth it.

Vermicelli Salad w/ Jicama, Carrots, & Zucchini

Every now and then I like to grab something at the grocery store that I don’t often cook with. It makes me feel like I’m in one of those mystery box cooking challenging on culinary game shows. Plus, it gives me a chance to explore […]

I’ve been in a cooking rut for a little while. Although the peppers in my garden are just beginning to ripen. So, it’s almost the season for making anything and everything with spicy food. Today, I have a couple of flaming jade peppers. Flaming jades […]

I have to admit that I haven’t felt inspired to cook in a little while. The problem with not feeling culinarily stimulated, though, is that you still actually have to eat. And for me, that oftentimes means that I’m too busy and work too long […]

Salad w/ Salmon, Couscous, & Cauliflower

August 6, 2023

I’m a big fan of salmon. I grew up on the West coast, so it’s ingrained in my culinary formative years. I don’t tend to eat much meat these days. Especially seafood that’s not great in this regional area. But it’s my go-to when I […]

Couscous w/ Cauliflower & Poblano Peppers

August 3, 2023

I’m been on a pseudo-Moroccan kick lately and have been trying my hand at couscous a little bit. Couscous might look like quinoa and I want to assume that it will cook like quinoa and lentils, which I often cook in a rice cooker. They’re […]

I adore vermicelli salads. They’re hands one of my favorite foods. I’m about to go out of town for a couple of weeks and I have some produce that I absolutely need to eat up before I go! So, instead of trying to figure out […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Daikon & Zucchini

March 23, 2023

Vermicelli salads are one of my favorite quick and easy recipes to toss together. There’s nothing worse than a plain old salad with wilting lettuce and syrupy salad dressing. I really just dislike the idea of lettuce as an entire meal. Any time I ask […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Daikon & Yellow Squash

March 12, 2023

Vermicelli salads are quick and easy to toss together. They have all of the produce you enjoy in a salad, with vermicelli instead of lettuce. I use brown rice vermicelli, so it’s gluten free and not as indulgent as pasta. It’s almost like an Asian-style […]

Vermicelli Salad w/ Red Pepper & Zucchini

March 9, 2023

One of my favorite things to make is vermicelli salad. It’s quick and easy to toss together. Vermicelli is a very thin pasta that cooks by bringing water to a boil, removing from heat, and adding the noodles. No timing. No waiting. It’s likely one […]

I like to have fun with the holidays and use them as an opportunity to make something fun and new sometimes. This year, I went with a Moroccan-inspired Christmas menu. I couldn’t decide whether I wanted a cold salad or a hot salad. Because spinach […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
