Category: Appetizer/Side

The term “appetizers” for me encompasses everything from starters to side dishes. These may be distinct categories on a typical menu. However, when you look at it, there aren’t really that many differences between the two. And the terms ar3 often be used interchangeably.

If you have French fries or cheese curds before the meal, it’s an appetizer. But does that mean that you can’t also have them on the side of an entrée with a burger or fish fry?

Whether something is a starter or a side dish is largely arbitrary. And mostly determined more by when you eat something. Rather than what you’re eating.

Thus, I have bundled starters and side dishes into the same category. I leave it up to you to determine where exactly in the course you want to place your appetizers!

I have decided that I am going to use absolutely everything in my pantry! I’ve just moved and, upon unpacking my pantry, I’ve realized that I have way too many things that I’ve carried around calling “pantry essentials.” In my last place, I just shoved […]

It is football season! And the Super Bowl is today. Now, I’m from Oregon where there is no professional football team. And I live in Wisconsin, where football is much more in vogue! But the Packers are out of contention. So, even if I were […]

Quinoa w/ Coconut, Carrots, & Curry Spices

February 17, 2022

I have just moved! And am in a curry mood. I made Curry w/ Carrots, Potatoes, Turmeric, & Runny Egg the other day. Which I have thoroughly enjoyed. But, now that I’m out of it, I have a dilemma. Either I make the exact same […]

Fondue w/ Havarti Cheese

February 10, 2022

Okay, I will admit that I’m just going through my cheese drawer at this point and going, “THAT might be good in fondue.” But how many cheese are there that wouldn’t be good in fondue? Really, the sky is the limit amongst the semi-soft and […]

I ordinarily have Greek yogurt on hand. I use it as a substitute for sour cream, as an alternative to milk or cream in pasta sauce, and generally just like the flavor of Greek yogurt. So, I ordinarily have a ton of it just lying […]

Fondue w/ Jarlsberg Cheese

February 3, 2022

Jarlsberg is a type of Swiss cheese that originated in Jarlsberg, Norway. I’d say that it’s a bit milder than most Swiss cheeses. But is a great addition to any fondue! Especially if you’re not quite as fond of the more classic bite to to […]

The Fundamentals of Making Fondue

February 1, 2022

If I could live off of cheese alone? I would eat cheese for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And there is absolutely no better way to eat cheese than fondue! Fondue is actually a fairly easy dish to make. I consider it simpler than a roux […]

You know how they say that you should never grocery shop while hungry? Obviously you’ll end up with a lot more “I’m instantly craving THIS” foods than most of us would actually want to consume. But I’ve come across this same problem while cooking today. […]

Fondue w/ Manchego Cheese

January 20, 2022

I have been making a ton of fondue lately. It’s one of my favorite things to make and is actually quite a bit simpler to do so than most people first imagine. The cheese in fondue is coated in cornstarch, which helps prevent the sauce […]

I am absolutely obsessed with fondue. There’s something about the holidays and cheese that I just can’t get over! It’s really more likely that I’m obsessed with cheese all year long. But that I indulge during the holidays and have accepted eating my body weight […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
