Category: The Fundamentals

There are some basics that I swear by. I hesitate to say that everyone should know how to make them because everyone’s culinary tastes and preferences are shaped by personal experience, region, family ties, and time and place in history. But, if you’re looking to expand your cooking foundation, this is where I would start.

The fundamentals are recipes that I make on a regular basis. They’re my go-tos and the backbone of the vast majority of meals that I make.

October 15, 2020

Learning how to scramble eggs is a staple of cooking. They’re easy to forget about, though! Scrambled eggs are so standard a food, that it can be easy for them to get overshadowed by other things. I would almost never order scrambled eggs at a […]

The Fundamentals of Cooking Rice

October 1, 2020

Cooking rice can be more difficult than it seems. It often turns out hard and undercooked or overcooked and mushy. And for years I just forwent the endeavor entirely. Often opting instead for quinoa or lentils, instead of rice. Just to avoid having to try […]

The Fundamentals of Roasted Garlic

September 15, 2020

There’s nothing that can’t be elevated with a little bit of roasted garlic! Roasting gives you a gentler flavor that usually more palatable to the garlic averse. And, to us garlic aficionados, instantly makes for a sweeter, almost caramelized flavor. You can substitute roasted garlic […]

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

Top 5 Overrated Kitchen Gadgets NOT Worth Buying

I hear what you're saying. The holidays are upon us. The overpriced culinary gadgets are finally on sale. But put down that copper pot. Step away from the Vitamix. And rethink that Instant Pot. Your counter space is too precious to spend that much money on things that you'll probably never use! Although, I do have some more useful recommendation, if you still think that you might want an all-purpose cooking contraption or fancy 19th century kitchen. Plus, nothing on this blog is sponsored. I just don't like it when people waste money on cooking fads. NAME ONE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY USES AN AT-HOME PRESSURE COOKER.
